The BottleNosed Dolphin Essay Research Paper The free essay sample

The Bottle-Nosed Dolphin Essay, Research Paper The Bottle-nosed Dolphin is the most studied and by and large the best-known species of mahimahi. Bottle-nosed mahimahis are classified # 8220 ; Tursiops truncates # 8221 ; in scientific name, and belong to the household Delphinidae, in the suborder Odontoceti, order Cetacea. This animate being is a really intelligent person. Bottle-nosed mahimahis are normally found in menagerie or Marine Parkss because of their capableness to execute fast ones. They can leap through basketballs 5 metres high because of their incredibly powerful tail. Equally good as jumping, Bottle-nosed mahimahis can raise themselves unsloped out of the H2O and travel backwards, by convulsing their dress suits. Bottle-nosed mahimahis are by and large coastal animals, happening along about all tropical and temperate seashores, although offshore assortments besides occur. In add-on, the Bottle-nosed mahimahi is called the # 8220 ; all-ocean # 8221 ; mahimahi, intending that it lives in every ocean. It is common for a school of 20 mahimahis to populate together in coastal parts, but school of 200 mahimahis are found in the offshore truths. We will write a custom essay sample on The BottleNosed Dolphin Essay Research Paper The or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page These schools do non look to hold a leader and by and large remain together for life. Such sea life as runt, calamari, little sharks, other craniates and fish are all a portion of a Bottle-nosed mahimahis diet. When they find a big school of fish, several schools of mahimahis join up to organize groups of up to 1000 mahimahis. They work together to caput and catch the fish. Another feeding method the Bottle-nosed mahimahi has developed is trailing the fish on to mire Bankss and catchs them in the air. Bottle-nosed mahimahis are an highly adaptable mammal. For illustration, the Atlantic Ocean signifier tends to be a small smaller and stockier with a shorter dais ( nose ) compared to the Pacific signifier. In Scots Waterss, Bottle-nosed mahimahis are chubby with a dark grey skin color, while the in Australian Waterss, Bottle-nosed mahimahis are thin, light grey visual aspect, with a dominant circle around each oculus. The ground why this mahimahi may alter its physical visual aspect is because there may be more fish in Scotland, or the quarry may be a slower strain, doing the Bottle-nosed mahimahi non work every bit difficult for its nutrient, hence making a chubbier strain of Bottle-nosed mahimahis compared to other parts of the universe. Bottle-nosed mahimahi have late been introduced and are now adhering with worlds in dolphin observation and swim-with-dolphin touristry activities in nature. A female Bottle-nosed mahimahi will maturate between the age of 5 to 12 old ages, and males at 9 to 13 old ages. Bottle-nosed mahimahis live for 30 to 50 old ages and turn from about a 6-inch calf, up to 10-foot long mature grownup in some instances. The female Bottle-nosed mahimahi has a gestation period of 12 months long, after which the female parent nurses the calf for about 18 months. During this period, the calf will larn practical accomplishments such as how to happen and capture nutrient, how to acknowledge other mahimahis. Bottle-nosed mahimahis have a multimale, multifemale coupling society. There no aggression when it comes to copulating from either male or female. By and large, Bottle-nosed mahimahis are a dark grey or black coloring material above, with a lighter coloring material on its tummy, which can alter to a flushed pink coloring material in warm H2O. These animate beings have a outstanding, curved back five with a thin tracking border that readily rags. The Bottle-nosed dolphin gets its name from its dais, which is shaped like a bottle. lt ; /p > Bottle-nosed mahimahis were hunted in the 19th and twentieth century for their tegument, but now are a lawfully protected species but violent deaths still happening due to angry fishermen and angling cyberspaces. If this animal were to of become nonextant, I believe at that place would non of been that greater alteration because the Bottle-nosed mahimahi has no immediate marauders and provenders on a broad scope of sea life. Bottle-nosed mahimahis seldom fight with each other because there is no power to be gained by it. They communicate by agencies of whistlings and rasping sounds. Besides, the usage of echo sounding is practiced, which is directing high-frequency chinks that bounce off quarry and other objects and utilize the returning echoes to place the objects. Bottle-nosed mahimahis have been known to swim with ships for nutrient, which is a common happening for sail ships. As for migration, this mahimahi can populate in any ocean it wishes to, except the Antarctic seas, but normally sticks to the same oceans or sea for its full life. Bottle-nosed mahimahis have great hearing capablenesss, merely every bit good because they use it like we use the power of address. For illustration, they have a extremely developed auditory cerebral mantle of the encephalon, with the auditory nervus transporting 67,900 cochlear fibres, which is twice every bit much as normal worlds. Bottle-nosed mahimahis react to chant within the frequence scope of 1 to 150 kilohertzs ( mean hearing scope for worlds is about.02 to 17 kMz. ) The ground why they have great hearing is because of their lower jaw and ear Acts of the Apostless as a sound receptor. Tones of about 20 kMz are picked up through the lower jaw, which so travels to a fat-filled pit, which conducts sound moving ridges through to the in-between ear. A Bottle-nosed mahimahis have an acute vision both in and out of the H2O. They have a extremely developed tapetum lacidum, which is a light-reflecting bed that reflects light through the retina a 2nd clip, giving Bottle-nosed mahimahis enhanced vision in dim visible radiation. Although it is non confirmed, rods and cones have been found in their retina, giving the inquiry conditions or non they can see color. Other senses such as gustatory sensation, odor and touch, are still to be questioned but through observations and behavior, it is believed that they have a well-developed senses of touch. A Bottle-nosed mahimahi skeletal system is believed to be originated from the basic mammalian skeleton, but has gone through a figure of alterations. First the forelimbs have been modified into fins and the castanetss of the hind limbs have disappeared wholly. Such castanetss as the rib coop and the spin have besides undergone transmutation in the fact that they have cured and caved-in due to H2O force per unit area. These animals hold their breath for about 15 proceedingss before holding to submerse for air. The Bottle-nosed mahimahi is an surprisingly strong animal. Because it neer stops swimming, the Bottle-nosed mahimahi has a really powerful tail, which is capable of back uping its weight of about 400 kilograms. Another factor of a Bottle-nosed mahimahis anatomy, which needs mentioning, is its blood circulation. The singular characteristic of this system is its plexus mirablilia. This characteristic is besides labelled # 8220 ; wounder cyberspaces # 8221 ; , which is when the blood vass create # 8220 ; nets # 8221 ; to protect critical variety meats form the effects of H2O force per unit area. In decision, the Bottle-nosed mahimahi has many unbelievable factors, which make it one of the smartest and elegant mammals in every ocean in the universe.

It shows the background of the survey. its aims and the statement of the job. In short this chapter gives us the starting of this job or experiment. Background of the Study In this clip of the twelvemonth. more and more mosquitoes are teeming in our milieus. and now some mosquitoes have a virus called dandy fever that can besides kill a individual if non treated. There are already many things we can utilize to avoid being bitten by this insects and one of those are mosquito repellents. One sort of a mosquito repellent is a katol or spiral in English. This is a taper like object that secretes smoke that can kill mosquitoes. Many scientists are now proving if there are alternate stuffs that can be used in doing spirals. Some have discovered that other workss are besides available stuffs in doing mosquito repellents. There are besides other utilizations of workss than merely nutrient. shelter and nutrition but besides a protection against harmful insects. Rationale of the Study The usage of some workss as medical utilizations is a fact that it is possible to do a mosquito repellent with a tegument of a lanzones fruit. Dengue is a really painful virus if non treated instantly. Merely from mosquitoes can we acquire this virus and it is really hazardous if bitten by one with it. These spirals might be one of the things we use but it is made of chemicals so it can non be safe from everyone particularly the fume it secretes. Using workss or fruits as alternate stuffs alternatively of chemicals can alter or destruct those symptoms and could decrease the alterations. Aim of the survey A mosquito spiral made up from natural mosquito driving workss will take the wellness jobs caused by commercial mosquito repellants. If this undertaking succeeds. this can be profitable for concern and can promote others to look for other utilizations of our country’s natural resources. Having an alternate solution to forestall the different sort of diseases that mosquitoes convey particularly dengue febrility and non do another job. Making usage of the natural resources of our state to work out common jobs caused by mosquitoes. particularly dengue. Our state being a tropical state can profit if this experiment succeeds. Statement of the ProblemThis survey tries to happen out the effectiveness of Lanzones desquamations as a mosquito slayer. Specifically. it wil answer the undermentioned inquiries: 1. is at that place a different figure of putting to deaths on the Lanzones mosquito slayer and the commercial mosquito slayer.2. is it more applicable to utilize than the commercial 1.Recent surveies showed that the fume generated from firing mosquito spiral is of certain wellness concerns a individual being exposed to the fume coming from the spiral may endure terrible unwellness and concerns that harms people particularly wheezing people.3. Is it possible to do a mosquito spiral made from lanzones4. Would the lanzones mosquito spiral be better than commercial spiral people use today? 5. Will at that place be harmful side effects if we use the mosquito spiral made from lanzones desquamations? Hypothesiss Some workss are now being studied have other potencies than merely medical specialty or nutrition. Lanzones peelings/skin has other utilizations than merely being thrown. The tegument. of the langsat assortment. can be dried and burned as incense. This tegument of the lanzones that can besides be dried and burned as incense can be a cogent evidence that this can be an alternate stuff for a mosquito repellent. One illustration is an marjoram. it is said that it contains antioxidants. anti-microbial and anti-parasitic compounds. Significance of the Study Our state. the Philippines. is a tropical state and now that pollution is now destructing the natural clime we have. searing heat and heavy rainfalls are what we now experience. These are besides the cause that the dandy fever virus is made. Now that more and more mosquitoes are now holding these virus. we have to utilize mosquito repellents to decrease the opportunity of holding it. The result/s of this survey can be a aid in the devising of new mosquito repellent but made from lanzones and other alternate stuff that can be said safer to the community and to those wheezing. This can besides assist others detect that lanzones besides has a possible in being used as a mosquito repellent. This can besides be a usher in doing a mosquito repellent that people can do in their places. This can be a new find for our community and this can be developed from farther surveies from the Bureau of Plant Industry. As we all know we don’t truly utilize the peelings/skins of workss and we merely throw them off. with this undertaking we can decrease the cachexia and throwing of these peelings/skins of fruits and these can decrease the pollution in our community. Scope and Boundary line This undertaking tackles on doing a mosquito spiral that is made up of natural ingredients that is non harmful to human wellness. Our undertaking besides tackles the protection of human existences against mosquito bites that cause diseases. This undertaking besides focuses on the utilizations of lanzones alternatively of being a fruit that we eat but alternatively a new alternate stuff on an object that can assist our community. Definition of Footings The followers are the of import footings that were considered in the research: Incense. A stuff used to bring forth a fragrant olfactory property when burned Alternative. Something that can be chosen alternatively of something else. Asthmatic. Peoples who have a status that makes it hard for them to take a breath. Reliability Standards&Regulations Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3000 words

Reliability Standards&Regulations - Essay Example t establishes a framework for eco-design requirements for Energy-using-Products which aims to contribute to sustainable development by increasing energy efficiency and protecting the environment while increasing the security of the energy supply. ‘Action should be taken during the design phase of EuP since it appears that the pollution caused during a product’s life cycle is determined at that stage, and most of the costs involved are committed then. If products have a standby mode, this is likely to be affected with a maximum consumption level in this mode. Standby mode is used where the equipment needs to be reactivated remotely or is required to carry out a function as displaying a clock. The maximum power consumption in standby mode depends on the equipment’s function and 1 watt decreasing to 0.5 watts is being proposed for products that use standby as a re-activation function only.. Televisions, microwave ovens, computer monitors, etc will need to be designed to ensure that this is not exceeded. This requirement has far-reaching implications as every function within a product circuitry will need to be reviewed to determine how the power consumption can be reduced. Many products cannot be completely shut down as the off-switch disconnects the input power supply from other parts of the equipment but does not disconnect the power supply from the mains. This is termed â€Å"Off-mode† and it is proposed to restrict power consumption of equipment in this mode initially to 1 watt and, two years later, to 0.5

Urban Planning - General Plan Anaylsis Research Paper - 1

Urban Planning - General Plan Anaylsis - Research Paper Example These people come from all over the world and are joined together in the work place thus making the work place the most culturally diverse institution followed by schools. In a typical work place it is obvious and somewhat normal to find an African, an Arab, a European, a Buddhist, a Christian or a Hindu and many others. Cultural diversity has become the norm of the contemporary society such that lack of it is considered weird and it is highly encouraged since it is a way of learning. Indeed there is lack of understanding of cultural diversity in various places. These places include at home, workplace, and in public. For example at the work place certain people because of their cultures do not condone certain behaviors while others are okay with them. In a case of bowing down while speaking to your boss or employer is considered respectful by the Asian community; this is the opposite in the American culture. In public the Arabic community never allows their women to dress in short and provocative dressing in public and insists on the traditional dress code yet many cultures allow women to put whatever they want. At home in an African setting a child is not allowed to talk back at adults even if they are wrong but some cultures like the American culture encourage children to express themselves especially if they are right or feel exploited or misunderstood. In order for people to get along well in workplace and be productive there is a need for understanding the concept of cultural diversity. This calls for training of cultural diversity in the work place. Different resources and training provides for workplaces to better understand cultural diversity. These resources include language: non English speaking workers can be taught English by the natives and fluent L2 speakers talking to them in English and correcting them when they make mistakes(Kim, &Mattila, 2011). Secondly, the employers can organize small weekend

Postgraduate Education Personal Statement Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Postgraduate Education - Personal Statement Example This way I laid the foundation stone for my future career. My immediate future at university was admission to information management course. This step looks like a movement away from my plans. It is not the case! Information and management have become an integral part of any profession; even medical specialists are not excluded although they deal with their patients and are not involved in any other business. Therefore, the professionals dealing with business, accounts, finance and public are in real need of developing excellent skills in information and management. People, who have not received any formal education in a specific field, usually, can learn related skills through their daily experiences while being at work places. But strengthening of knowledge and enhancing understanding of any subject area demands living in an academic environment for quite some time. The importance of a good academic institution in the development of personality and guidance towards a specific direction can never be excluded. Prior to as well as during my university course work, I could find some opportunities to get working experience in my chosen field at the national and international levels. The work I have been involved in has strong associations what I have been learning at university and learnt at my schools. In fact, during these shorter periods of internship I could get orientation related to the practical work of my area of interest. I learnt about working environment of professional organizations, applied my knowledge and skills to carry out prescribed tasks and assessed my abilities to work in such environments. My stay at these organizations provided me a chance to practice what I had learnt in my class rooms; I analysed the information related to the clients using my statistical skills and based on these analyses suggested actions as appropriate as possible. I had a chance to improve my interpersonal communication skills, apply proper negotiation expertise, and develop proficiency in documentation and record keeping. The discussion sessions I had with my senior colleagues especially of the bank staff enriched my knowledge and improved my insight in the subject to a substantial level. In reality, It was a combined effect of taught courses, my short experience in various but related environments and encouraging feedback from my senior colleagues which boosted me up and compelled me to think for higher studies in finance (MA finance & investment), (MSc finance) (MSc accounting & Finance) (Msc investment), think for higher studies in economics and bankging (MSc int economics, banking). Moreover, I could also find an opportunity to talk and discuss with some of the alumni of school (name of the school) who liked the idea of applying to this business school (name of the school) and were optimistic about my admission to the programme (name of prog). Applying to a postgraduate degree course at your business school at the moment seems an appropriate decision. Based on my experience either at my academic institutions or at some professional organizations I reach to the conclusion that I must continue my studies in such a wonderful institution because I find myself to fulfil all the requirements of the course. At postgraduate level a combination of

Overview of Vagus Nerve Stimulation

Overview of Vagus Nerve Stimulation The vagus nerve is one of 12 cranial nerves that pass information to and from the brain. The vagus nerve is the longest of the cranial nerves, with connections to the brain and many of the organs of the body. Intermittent electrical stimulation of the vagus nerve seems to reduce or prevent seizures. Vagus nerve stimulation involves a surgical procedure to implant an electrical pulse generator in the chest and attach electrodes to the vagus nerve in the neck. A pulse generator is similar to a pacemaker. It isabout the size of a pocket watch and weighs about 25 grams (g). How does vagus nerve stimulation work? The pulse generatoris surgically implanted in the chest just under the skin. This generator is programmed to intermittently transmit small electrical signals via a wire to the vagus nerve in the neck. We do not understand why electrical stimulation of the vagus nerve is effective at preventing seizures. It may be related to changes in the brainstem and thalamus, or the electrical stimulation may intercept the abnormal brain activity associated with seizures. The generator functions automatically 24 hours a day. An external programming wand and software are used by the doctor, to read and alter the stimulation strength and frequency. After the generator is first implanted, the usual starting settings are 30 seconds of stimulation every 5 minutes. The strength of the electrical signal usually starts at 0.25 or 0.5 milliamperes (mA) and is then increased every few months by 0.25 mA. The frequency of the stimulation can also be adjusted, to come on and off more frequently. Patients are also given a magnet, which acts as a switch for the generator. When a patient senses the beginning of a seizure, she can pass the magnet over the pulse generator to deliver extra stimulation. For some people, this extra stimulation can stop a seizure from progressing, shorten a seizure, or reduce the intensity of the seizure. The magnet can also be used to turn the stimulator off temporarily. The battery life of the generator is about six years, after which the device can be replaced. This will require another surgical procedure, similar to the first2. What and who is vagus nerve stimulation best used for? Vagus nerve stimulation has been used to treat partial and generalized seizures in both adults and children. It is considered in the following cases: Anti-epileptic medication does not control seizures effectively. The child is not a good candidate for brain surgery, either because of high risk or because he has various epileptogenic (seizure-generating) areas in his brain. The child is large enough to support the implant. This is usually decided by the neurologist and surgeon. Vagus nerve stimulation should not be used in children with certain cardiac, respiratory, or gastrointestinal problems. The vagus nerve serves the heart, lungs, and stomach, and some existing problems in these areas may lead to complications with vagus nerve stimulation. Vagus nerve stimulation usually reduces seizures but does not often eliminate them completely. Usually it is used together with medication. Use in the Pediatric Population A large group of patients with intractable epilepsy are younger than 12 years, including children with Lennox-Gastaut syndrome, Dravet syndrome, and other difficult-to-treat epileptic conditions. Morris and colleagues[3]recently provided an evidence-based guideline for VNS in children that is based on a review of off-label use. In 13 class 3 studies involving 470 children with partial or generalized epilepsy, 55% had > 50% seizure reduction with VNS. Similarly, in 4 class III studies of 113 children with Lennox-Gastaut syndrome, 55% had > 50% seizure reduction. Mood studies were not available for children. (In 2 class 3 studies of 31 adults with epilepsy, significant improvements in standard mood scales were observed.) Children were 3.4 times more likely than adults to develop an infection at the VNS implantation site. What is the procedure? A medical evaluation is necessary to determine if this is a case that may be successfully treated with vagus nerve stimulation. Once it has been decided that your child may be helped by vagus nerve stimulation, the surgeon, anaesthetist, and others on the medical team will explain the procedure to you in detail. Its important that you understand the procedure, its risks, and your childs future care; feel free to ask them any questions you may have. With the help of the treatment team, you should then explain the procedure to your child and help him understand what to expect after the implantation. Your child will need to be admitted into the hospital to install the device. Your child will probably need to be put to sleep under general anaesthetic, and therefore will need to stop eating eight hours before. The operation can be done with a local anaesthetic, but because it is hard for children to stay still, most require a general anaesthetic. The procedure itself takes about one hour. One cut about 5 cm long is made on the left chest wall to implant the pulse generator. Another cut about 5 cm long is made in the neck, through which flexible platinum electrodes are attached to the vagus nerve. Because the vagus nerve also goes to the heart, the generator will be turned on in the operating room so that the surgeon can make sure the device does not interfere with the heart. For the same reason, the electrodes are almost always placed on the left vagus nerve, which has less critical influence on the heart. Your child may be sent home on the same day or kept overnight for observation. You and your child will be taught how to care for the incisions before discharge1. Using vagus nerve stimulation After the pulse generator is implanted, the doctor will start the stimulation, using a wand attached to a laptop computer. The doctor will begin with a low dose of current, given for 30 seconds every five minutes. The strength and duration of the stimulation will be slowly increased, at subsequent doctor visits, to achieve optimum seizure control. The stimulation is delivered automatically, 24 hours a day. Your child will also be given a special magnet for use with the pulse generator. Children who experience auras (a feeling that signals the onset of a seizure) can use the magnet to give an extra burst of stimulation, which may reduce or eliminate an imminent seizure. You can also use the magnet if you see that your child is about to have a seizure. The magnet can also be used to turn off the pulse generator temporarily and to check its operation. The doctor will make sure that you and your child understand how to use the magnet before you leave the hospital. Your child will need to continue taking his medications. The dosage will be kept constant for several months while the generators output current is slowly increased. Once the current has been increased to its optimal level, your childs doctor will consider reducing medication and will discuss a new schedule with you. The benefits of VNS seem to increase over time. In one study:1 After 3 months, the number of seizures decreased by about one-third. After 12 months, the number of seizures decreased by about half. And in 2 out of 10 people, the number of seizures decreased by about three-fourths. For people who can sense when they are about to have a seizure, turning on the VNS using their hand-held magnet can sometimes prevent the seizure. It may also shorten a seizure already in progress. Studies show that VNS may also be effective in children. VNS improved independence, mood, and learning in some children3. What to Expect After Surgery The generator may be turned on the day following the surgery or at the first post-surgical visit. Your child will be reassessed in seven to 10 days for a wound check, and the generator may be turned on or adjusted.Parents will be shown how to use a magnet to control a seizure. Waving the magnet over the generator may stop or shorten a seizure. Children who are implanted with a VNS usually return home the same day following their surgery. Sometimes a hospital stay of one night is necessary2. Regular monitoring Regular monitoring is required to check the generator and battery and to make sure the treatment is working well and is not uncomfortable. The battery life of the generator is about six years, after which the device may be replaced. This will require another surgical procedure, similar to the first Risks The vagus nerve stimulator is considered safe. Mild side effects occur in some people when the device stimulates the nerve. The most common side effects include: Coughing. Throat pain. Hoarseness or slight voice changes. Shortness of breath. In children, vagus nerve stimulation may cause increased hyperactivity2. Conclusion For more than 15 years, VNS has proven a useful adjunct to pharmaceutical therapy in adults and children with intractable epilepsy. In an evidence-based guideline, Morris and colleaguesconcluded that VNS may be considered for treatment of seizures in children with epilepsy, including those with Lennox-Gastaut syndrome (level C). Improvements in mood, as well as a sense of control over seizures provided by the magnet, may be added benefits. Adverse events, such as postimplant infection and lead fracture, may occur more often in children than in adults1. As with many pediatric therapies, VNS is not FDA-approved for children. Nonetheless, VNS represents a potentially effective and nonsedating treatment option and should be considered for children with intractable epilepsy. Huck Finn :: essays research papers

Pg. 2 â€Å"After supper she got out her book and learned me about Moses and the Bulrushers, and I was in a sweat to find out all abut him; but by and by she let it out that Moses had been dead a considerable long time; so then I didn’t care no more abut him, because I don’t take no stock in dead people.†   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  In the beginning of the book, when Huck is first taken into Widow Douglas’ house, she tries to get him to be more civilized. She reads to him from the Bible, teaches him how to read and behave, and even forces him to wear shoes. This quote was [I’m guessing] Huck’s first encounter with religion, because obviously his father wouldn’t have taken him to church. Huck is first intrigued by the adventures people experienced, but is quickly bored when he finds out that they all died a while ago.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  In this passage, Mark Twain uses Huck to show his objection to the blind faith that civilized society places towards religion. I’m guessing Mark Twain wasn’t a very religious man. This whole book is on the different downfalls of society, and I guess Mark Twain considers religion to be one of those. I do agree with him on this count. Although I’m Christian, I do agree with the various slight comments he makes throughout the book to show how people fell it’s ok to do whatever as long as they can justify it by the bible or something. Pg. 12 â€Å"per'aps if we keep them till they're ransomed, it means that we keep them till they're dead.† When Huck Finn sneaks out to go play with Tom Sawyer and all their other friends, they decide to form a gang of robbers. They decide to hold people ransom, except they don’t really know what ransom is, so Tom just comes up with a meaning to the word that he thinks sounds about right. All of the boys in the gang agree. I think this quote fits in with the theme of the book â€Å"satire of society.† While the meaning of the word ransom may not be a crucial topic, the concept that I think Mark Twain is trying to illustrate is that if one person says something everyone will follow. The boys have no way of knowing what the real meaning of ransom is, so they just blindly go along with whatever Tom suggests, and that is one of the biggest downfalls of society, even today.

Algebra in Daily Life Essay

1. Algebra is a method of calculating using simple equations to represent quantity and to show relation between them. Algebra is also a part of our life, we use it on measuring the length of our table, notebooks, doors and other more. Another concept of mine is measuring capacity,In school we always measure the right amount of ingredients that we cook. Because to an culinary student like me we are showing how to measure the exact amount of ingredients that we gonna use.Scientific notation can be used in Chemistry,Chemistry uses equations of algebra. Like adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing scientific notation. In mixture problems, we are using it to know how many water are on the gallons. We always buy water , in that case we need mixture problems. 2. â€Å"Mathematics is one of the first things you learn in life. Even as a baby you learn to count. Starting from that tiny age you will start to learn how to use building blocks how to count and then move on to drawing objects and figures. All of these things are important preparation to doing algebra.† 3. When writing any assignments the use of graphs, data and math will validate your statements and make it appear more professional. Professionalism is of the essence if you want to move ahead and be taken seriously. Can you see the importance of algebra? Your day can be made a lot easier with planning. In financial decisions this can save you a lot of finances or maybe get you the best price available. It all comes down to planning and using the knowledge and algebraic skills you have to benefit your own life. Use the key you have and make your life a lot smoother. 4. Algebra is one of the most important subjects someone can learn. It is a subject that transfers into daily life, often without anyone even realizing it. Unlike English or History classes, Algebra can be put straight to use once learned. It is one of the most versatile subjects there is. Algebra can be anything from calculating the amount of money you’ve spent on your grocery shopping, keeping track of the calories you have in your diet, and designing structural plans for a building. Going shopping and frequenting stores can often get out of hand and confusing as to how much things cost or to how much you saved on an item. Algebra can help you to configure all of these things and also save you from making any costly mistakes. Many items in grocery stores are often on sale at some point or another whether it be 10% percent to 50% and a lot of times people don’t know how much they are saving on any particular item. Algebra simply allows a person to calculate all of these things. Algebra is also a convenient skill to possess when it comes to dieting and recipes. Counting the number of carbohydrates or calories and keeping track of them can get overwhelming at times and a person can get confused. Algebra can help you to see how many calories you have had and also it can help you calculate how many you are able to have in the future. Cooking is also another skill that is associated with algebra. Adding and subtracting ingredients, figuring out the amount of time something has to cook, and also how to serve a food evenly all have to do with algebra. Architecture is a skill that has a lot to do with numbers as well. It is very important to know exactly how long everything is, how much weight something can take, and the dimensions of every minute detail. If an architect doesn’t know the answers to these, not only will the structure be wrong but the building could also be a safety hazard.

Financial Aid Calculator for Private Schools

Financial Aid Calculator for Private Schools While many parents experience sticker shock when they see the price of tuition at private schools, it is important to remember that affording a private school education is not like purchasing a house, vehicle or another high-end purchase. Why? Simple: private schools offer financial aid to qualified families. Thats right, about 20% of private school students nationwide receive some form of financial aid to defray the cost of tuition, which averages about $20,000 at day schools (and closer to $40,000 or more in many urban areas on the East and West Coasts) and over $50,000 at many boarding schools. According to NAIS, or the National Association of Independent Schools, nearly 20% of students at private schools nationwide are awarded some financial aid, and the average grant of need-based aid was $9,232 for day schools and $17,295 for boarding schools (in 2005). At schools with large endowments, such as top boarding schools, about 35% of students receive need-based aid. At many boarding schools, families earning under about $75,000 year may actually pay little or nothing in tuition, so be sure to ask about these programs if they apply to your family. Overall, private schools give out more than $2 billion in financial aid to families.   How Schools Determine Financial Aid To determine how much financial aid each family should be granted, most private schools ask families to fill out applications and possibly submit tax forms. Applicants may also have to fill out the School and Student Service’s (SSS) Parents’ Financial Statement (PFS) to determine what parents can pay towards their children’s private school tuitions. About 2,100 K-12 schools use the Parents’ Financial Statement, but before parents fill it out, they should be sure the schools they are applying to accept this application. Parents can fill out the PFS online, and the site offers a workbook to guide applicants. Filling out the form online costs $37, while it costs $49 to fill it out on paper. A fee waiver is available. The PFS asks parents to provide information about the family’s income, the family’s assets (homes, vehicles, bank and mutual fund accounts, etc.), the debts the family owes, how much the family pays for educational expenses for all their children, and other expenses the family may have (such as dental and medical expenses, camps, lessons and tutors, and vacations). You may be asked to upload certain documents related to your finances onto the website, and these documents are stored securely. Based on the information you submit on the PFS, the SSS determines how much discretionary income you have and makes a recommendation about your â€Å"Estimated Family Contribution† to the schools to which you are applying. However, schools make their own decisions about the amount each family can pay for tuition, and they may adjust this estimate. For example, some schools may decide that they can not afford this amount and may ask the family to pay more, while other schools may adjust the cost of living for your city or town based on local factors. In addition, schools vary in how much aid they offer based on their endowment and the school’s commitment to providing financial aid to broaden their student body. In general, older, more established schools tend to have larger endowments and can offer to provide more generous financial aid packages. Where to Find a Financial Aid Calculator The truth is, there really isnt a fool-proof financial aid calculator for private school applicants. But, private schools do try to work closely with families to meet their needs. If you want a general idea of your estimated FA award, you might consider a financial aid calculator used by students applying for financial aid at college. You can also ask the admission office for statistics on average financial aid awards offered by the school, percent of family-need met and the percent of students who receive aid. Also, look at the schools endowment and ask what the full financial aid budget is, these factors can help you get an idea of how aid is allocated to families. Because each school makes its own decision about financial aid and how much your family should pay toward tuition, you may wind up with very different offers from different schools. In fact, the amount of aid you are offered can be one of the factors you consider when choosing the right private school.

Media Focus more on the personality than the politician. essays

Media Focus more on the personality than the politician. essays Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain is a line taken from the Wizard of Oz and is spoken by the wizard to symbolize that it is not the person pulling the strings and levers who is of importance, but rather the effect that one experiences in front of that curtain. A useful quote to illustrate that which confronts political audiences everyday. What we see and hear with respect to politicians, what we understand by policy or party affiliation is such that we need to question what it is that is actually being conveyed and for what reason? More importantly, as the audience or enquiring social scientist, is it not of consequence to know who the wizard actually is, whether he be the media or the politician? In the last fifty years, the media, in its numerous forms, has become a central social institution. Whether it be through television, newspapers or the internet, the media is the principle means by which information is communicated to us. The media is by no means a definitive source of knowledge, but it certainly is a valuable and practical source by which information, that would otherwise have gone unknown, be communicated to the general public. Political awareness today, for the majority of us, is brought directly to us as a result of the media. In the U.S., for example, television is the main method by which Americans find out about news politics etc, and therefore candidates not only try to obtain as much airtime as possible but also spend a large proportion of their budget on television advertising. With the advent of new technology enabling information to be conveyed to the masses, politicians were quick to reap the benefits that the media had to offer. Although the need to campaign door-to-door has some benefits, they are benefits for of a politician of a past generation. Today, such campaigning, is only of viable when it is mediated to the...

Research Methods for Business Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words

Research Methods for Business - Assignment Example The first and the foremost dilemma of the research process is that it is very expensive. It takes a lot of effort to collect the views of the targets and hence consumes a lot of money as well. When it comes to a sample, if selected carefully, it is to a very large extent a true representation of the population. And since the sample size is smaller than the size of the population, it costs much less to gather data from the sample. Thus, sampling is very cost-efficient as compared to the entire population. Labor is another factor that leads to the use of sampling procedures. A large amount of labor needs to be engaged while conducting a research. This labor force is very expensive to employ and it takes a lot of time as well in order to select the best people to perform the task. Thus, the larger the sample size, the more the labor needed and the more would be the time and finances consumed. Therefore, it is better to use a sample instead of the entire population in order to minimize the cost and effort. Time is one of the most important factors when making any decision regarding the research methods and processes. Although there are many reasons for the time to be a crucial factor, however, the most important reason is that he researches are mostly very time sensitive, i.e. they tend to expire with time or so to say, the findings of the research tend to quickly become obsolete as the time passes and the preferences of the respondents change with changes in the society and the economy. Therefore, the research might not remain valid by the time it is finished.

Paradox of Thrift Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words

Paradox of Thrift - Assignment Example This scenario contradicts the individual or household-based argument that saving is good for the economy. In the United States, the Personal Savings Rate (PSR) over the last decade has been increasing and decreasing from time to time depending on the personal savings levels in the economy. The U.S PSR was recorded at 3.40% in December 2011, 5.50% in January 2011, 4.90% in December 2010, 4.50% in December 2009, and 5.70% in December 2008 among others (Yates & Hunter, 2011). This trend can be associated with the performance of the U.S economy at different times of every single year. The spending and saving of a typical American household is guided by the economic potential of the household. This can be held collectively for the entire economy, where the population spends within its financial limits. By observing the PSR trend over the last decade, it is seen that both spending and saving in the economy fluctuate from time to time. Increase in savings directly lowers spending in the economy, and vice versa. Too much savings in the economy lowers total consumption. A typical American household spends more than it saves, but summing up increased savings in the economy can result in the paradox of
